Josef Silny & Associates Evaluation: Cost, Documents & Time

Quick answer: A Josef Silny & Associates (JS&A) evaluation tells a US university or licensing board what your Indian degree equals in the US. As JS&A lists its fees today, a document-by-document report costs US $100 and a course-by-course report US $160, before add-ons. Allow at least 10 business days once everything arrives.
In this guide:
- JS&A’s current fees, with worked examples
- The documents it asks for, and why Indian records are usually the last piece
- Where applicants lose time
This guide covers JS&A’s complete process and other details, including current fees, what documents are required, how long it takes, and where Indian applicants lose time. Worldwide Transcripts has delivered 175,000+ orders in 15+ years with academic document procurement from 850+ Indian universities. We keep checking JS&A’s portal as its fees and timeline may change without notice, so check before you pay.
What a JS&A Evaluation Is
Josef Silny & Associates is a US foreign credential evaluation service based in Miami. It compares your Indian degree with US education and issues a written report also called an evaluation report, which it sends to the university or board you name.
There are two main report types. A document-by-document report names your degrees and gives the US equivalent of each. A course-by-course report does that too, and also gives course, grade, and credit equivalents in US terms. Your university or evaluation body decides which one you need.

What It Costs
These are JS&A’s basic fees for post-secondary and university credentials, as listed on their website. All the fees are in US dollars; they’re non-refundable, and JS&A says they can change without notice, so keep checking their website for an updated fee chart.
- Document-by-document: US $100
- Course-by-course: US $160
- Grade point average equivalent: US $40 extra, for each level of education
- Upper division course identification: US $40 extra on a course-by-course report, which some universities require
- Engineering licensing evaluation: US $400
- Rush reports: US $100 extra for 5 business days, US $200 for 2 days, US $300 for the next business day
- Extra copies: US $20 each if ordered with the evaluation, US $30 each later
- Returning originals: US $25 by Priority Mail, US $50 by courier, US $90 by international courier
Here’s how that adds up. A document-by-document report is US $100. A course-by-course report with a GPA is US $160 plus US $40, so US $200. Add a 5-day rush, and it’s US $300. Those are JS&A’s fees only, and if at all a foreign institution charges for verification, that’s separate.
Which Type Do You Need?
Check the receiving university’s or board’s instructions first. Some universities already mention which report to order. Course-by-course is the one JS&A says is usually needed for transfers into US universities, CPA exams, and teacher certification. Engineering and nursing boards use a different evaluation altogether.
If you aren’t sure, ask the receiver. Changing from document-by-document to course-by-course later costs extra in terms of time and money.
Documents JS&A Asks For
JS&A won’t process anything until it has your signed application and the fee. It tells applicants not to send academic documents before that. After that, it generally asks for:
- Official diplomas and certificates in the original language. Photocopies aren’t accepted for an official evaluation in many courses.
- An official statement of records in the original language, showing course names, grades, and hours for every year of study.
- A certified English translation, for anything not in English.
- Proof of a name change, such as a passport copy, if your name differs from your documents.
Payment is by US bank check, money order, or credit card form. JS&A doesn’t accept postal money orders or Western Union.
This is where Indian records come in. If JS&A wants records from your university, our marksheet transcripts service is how most applicants get them. If your degree isn’t issued yet, ask about a convocation certificate.
How Long It Takes
JS&A says standard evaluations are normally prepared in at least 10-15 business days after it receives all fees, information, and complete documents. Rush reports are available in 5, 2, or 1 business days for an extra fee.
The catch is when the clock starts. It starts only once everything has arrived, and for Indian applicants, the university’s records usually arrive last. JS&A also closes a file that isn’t completed within three months, and reopening it means an additional fee. So make sure the documents are ready before applying.
Where Indian Applicants Lose Time
The most common slip is paying first and chasing records second, which can run into the three-month limit. Mailing original certificates internationally is another risk, as there will be no liability for loss or damage in transit, and getting them back costs more.
Names are next. If your application, marksheets, and passport spell your name differently, you’ll be asked for proof. Others order the wrong report type, send photocopies where originals or direct records are needed, or skip the receiving university’s own JS&A application.
What We See at Worldwide Transcripts
With US evaluators, the pattern matches what we see with ECA bodies: the evaluator’s side is predictable, and the university side isn’t. The delay is almost always an incomplete document submission, a name that doesn’t match, or a record that’s hard to trace. We check those before anything goes out, and we handle the university side so you can follow progress on the app.
